2015年，香港特區政府發表《人口政策：策略與措施》報告，統計自1980年以來，約有八十萬香港人移居外地，而加拿大是香港人熱門移民地點之一。兩地雖然隔着遼闊的太平洋，但早在十九世紀末已有頻繁的人員往來。第二次世界大戰讓兩地關係更為密切，成為命運共同體，因為兩地民眾要面對共同的敵人。1941年11月，接近二千名加拿大官兵，在羅遜准將帶領下乘船抵達香港，他們的任務是協助駐港英軍抵擋日軍。十八天激烈戰鬥，造成了二百九十名加拿大官兵陣亡，其中包括羅遜准將。今天，他們仍長眠於香港西灣國殤紀念墳場與赤柱軍人墳場。本書不只是重塑加拿大官兵如何被牽扯進香港戰役，更關注戰爭結束後生還的加拿大官兵的生活，從而闡述戰爭對軍人所造成的身體上和心理上的創傷。(摘錄自博客來網路書店)
